Before we can build any structure for building, firstly we need to know and highly inform about all the data about that sites would be. We should also know what types of structure that we want to build there. There is a new site has open at Bukit Antarabangsa. They want to build a kindergarten in there. So the civil engineer has to decide what right types of material to use, because that place is in a hilly area. So for an example, for the material that we can use to build structure for pipe is an iron. There is many types of iron that we can choose depends on their purpose. Those iron such as pig iron, wrought iron and cast iron also has their own advantages.

First of all,we should know about wrought iron, wrought iron have a good quality in 99.5% iron contain less than 0.1% of silicon, 0.1% sulfur, 0.07% phosphorus and 0.003% of manganese. The strength is 20-26ton/in2. Furthermore, wrought iron is very malleable and ductile. It is strong in compression but not strong as steel. And its melting point is 26000F to became pasty and very plastic at red heat and could be easily forged at about 16500F.

Secondly is a cast iron. Cast iron is came from pig iron that is re-melted with limestone and coke. It poured into mould of desire shapes and sizes to get purer product.


Lastly, we should know about pig iron. It has a very high carbon content, typically 3.5-4.5%, which makes it very brittle and not useful directly as a material except for limited applications. It also is the intermediate product of smelting iron or with high carbon fuel. It is used in a finery forges after it is worked into wrought iron. Besides that pig iron use as ballast on NASA Boeing 747 shuttle carrier aircraft.

For conclusion, wrought iron is the best and most suitable iron to use for this project.
